Match Report

Bridport bowed out of the FA Vase by the odd goal in seven against Cirencester Town from the Hellenic League Premier Division, one step above our division.

The Bees came out of the game beaten, but not disgraced, although when Danny Way opened the scoring for the visitors to complete a counter attack from six yards in the ninth minute, the home faithful were fearing the worst! It was almost two - nil in the following minute when Jonty Welch shot wide, which would have put the cap on a marvellous team move, but he shot wide.

As it was, in the eleventh minute, Bees striker Sam Fisher equalised from close range and Riley Weedon forced Cirencester keeper Connor John to snatch the ball from under his crossbar to safety in the next attack.

Bridport took the lead in the twentieth minute when Fred Parsons ran and passed the ball from midfield to Fisher who claimed his second from the edge of the penalty area. The Centurions subsequently forced successive corners before Jonty Welch levelled the score with a shot from 20 yards with twenty- nine minutes elapsed. Bridport came under constant pressure from the confident visitors but three minutes from the break Harlie Price made it 3-2 from close range.

When Price doubled his tally, two minutes into the second half with a flicked on header from a corner for 4-2 to Cirencester, there was a feeling that they might be about to add a few more to their total. To their credit, Bridport did all they could to stay at least within contact, with Callum Arnold heading wide shortly afterwards. A shot from Parsons, a fluffed end to a three man passing move for Weedon and a header for Parsons all failed to find the target, until with thirteen minutes left Sam Fisher completed his hat-trick for 3-4.

Sadly for the home faithful, the ball just wouldn't go into the net, despite Callum Arnold attempting an audacious cross / shot which flew wide of the target as time ran out.
