Match Report

Bridport made it two wins in the opening five days of the season with the first eclipse of the week, strolling past an Axminster team who didn't register one shot on target in the first half, leaving the visitors in the shade!

Bees keeper Josh Attwood set the tone in the first minute when he launched a clearance that Josh Camp headed wide at the other end. Five minutes later Camp opened the scoring, sliding a loose ball home from six yards. The hosts were close to doubling the score in the tenth minute when local favourite Fred Parsons' attempt from eight yards was tipped away for a corner. In a rare attack, in the sixteenth minute Axminster's Owen Dibling couldn't reach a cross from the wing with only Attwood to beat. The latter almost embarrassed himself mid way through the half as he struggled to control a routine back pass, but his teammates ensured that otherwise he had a quiet night, interspersed with drop kick clearances that regularly landed well inside the visitors' half! The Bees were having the most of the possession, albeit a little "ring rusty" at times, which may have partially explained a returning combative Don McAllister committing one too many fouls, leading to a booking as the first half ran down.

In the second half former Bee, Tony Pinder receiving a warning for his behaviour two minutes after the restart, which was , regrettably for Axminster, one of the few notable actions by a Devonian team member in the contest!

In the 55th minute Owen Kemp launched a shot over the bar from 20 yards which was followed by a cross by Parsons which took two Axminster players to safely clear. Three minutes later, the target of a throw-in, the same player headed home The Bees' second, and the contest was virtually over when Callum Arnold scored the third goal after two previous attempts by Bridport had been beaten away.

The final ten minutes of the contest only produced two moments of note. With nine minutes remaining, in line with the updated rulings re substitutions, Oscar Poole was seconds away from being the first ever Bridport sub to receive a yellow for delaying his entry to the game, while in the 86th minutes Axminster Town produced their first shot on target.....

It was that sort of night....
