Match Report: AEK Boco Ladies Development 3 - 2 Bridport FC Ladies First Team

Bridport FC Ladies first team traveled to face AEK Boco Ladies Development in an away match that proved to be a closely contested and eventful encounter. AEK Boco, sitting 7th in the league, had previously scratched their scheduled game against us, unable to field a team. This time, however, they brought a strong lineup, drawing from their first and reserves teams after their South West Regional Division Premier side had a late game cancellation.

First Half

The game kicked off under challenging pitch conditions, with one particularly muddy wing making it difficult for Bridport’s Maisie Macdonald to use her pace and stretch the play. Both sides struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, and the match was largely balanced, with half chances falling to either team. Defenses held firm until the 30th minute when AEK Boco’s Megan Bloomer, a first-team player, broke through and tested Bridport’s goalkeeper Zoe Disley German, who made a confident save.

The deadlock was broken in the 34th minute. Bridport failed to adequately defend a throw-in, allowing Boco to capitalize and set up Alex Douglas Bailey, who finished clinically into the bottom right corner. Disley German’s view was slightly obscured, leaving her with little chance to react.

The rest of the half saw limited action, with both teams struggling to adapt to the difficult playing conditions.

Second Half

Bridport came out for the second half with renewed energy, determined to get back into the game. Their positive start bore fruit in the 52nd minute. Center-back Cait Corbett made an impressive run up to the halfway line and released a perfectly weighted pass for Aleeshea Rowland. Rowland squared the ball to Clare Darby, who made no mistake with her finish to equalize.

However, AEK Boco responded swiftly. Just four minutes later, a well-delivered free kick allowed them to win an aerial battle and restore their lead. Undeterred, Bridport pressed forward, and in the 60th minute, Holly Perryment sent a precise through ball for Rowland to chase. Rowland kept her composure and chipped the onrushing keeper to level the scores once again.

The game’s decisive moment came when Bloomer broke through Bridport’s defense. Cait Corbett’s misjudged tackle resulted in a penalty. Despite diving the right way, Disley German couldn’t prevent the well-taken spot-kick from putting Boco back in front.

Bridport had two golden chances to salvage the game in the closing stages but couldn’t convert. Those missed opportunities ultimately summed up the day for the team.

Reflection and Looking Ahead

It was a frustrating result for Bridport, who showed great character to fight back twice but were undone by key moments and missed opportunities. With several games left in the season, there’s still all to play for. The team will look to bounce back strongly, aiming to win their remaining matches and see where the final standings take them.
