Match Report: Bridport FC Ladies 4–3 Cheddar Ladies
Somerset County Women’s League

Bridport FC Ladies claimed a thrilling 4-3 victory over Cheddar Ladies in a top-of-the-table clash, moving three points clear at the league summit with just six games remaining.

The stakes were high as the two sides entered the game level on points, with Cheddar leading the league on goal difference. Confidence was bolstered by Bridport’s earlier win against Cheddar in the reverse fixture, and despite heavy overnight rain, the Bridport squad rallied to help prepare the spare pitch after the main one was rendered unplayable.

This match also marked the debut of new goalkeeper Zoe Disley-German, who delivered a composed and commanding performance between the sticks.

First Half: Bridport Take Control

The Bees started positively, showing composure in defense and determination across the pitch. It took just six minutes to break the deadlock when Maisie Macdonald pounced on a poor clearance by Cheddar’s right-back. Her dangerous cross caused chaos, with a defender’s header ricocheting off the crossbar before Aleeshea Rowland, the league’s top scorer, scrambled the ball over the line to give Bridport an early lead.

The second goal followed in the 18th minute, and it was a moment of brilliance from Zoe Disley-German. Her long kick cleared the Cheddar backline, allowing Rowland to sprint onto the ball and finish clinically for her second of the match.

Bridport dominated much of the first half, with the midfield and forwards pressing effectively while the defense stood firm against Cheddar’s strong attacking threats. At halftime, Bridport held a deserved 2-0 lead.

Second Half: A Game of High Drama

The second half started with both teams looking to assert themselves. Bridport extended their lead in the 53rd minute when Lucy McClements stepped up to take a free kick just outside the box, curling a stunning effort into the top right corner to make it 3-0.

Cheddar, however, refused to back down and capitalized on a defensive slip to score their first goal. The visitors began to grow into the game, stretching Bridport on the counter and applying increasing pressure.

In response, Bridport freshened their lineup in the 62nd minute, bringing on Tegan Parr and Emily Robinson. The impact was immediate, as Robinson scored with her second touch after a well-worked move and assist from Rowland, restoring Bridport’s three-goal cushion at 4-1.

But Cheddar fought back, scoring twice in quick succession around the 72nd minute to make it 4-3. With momentum shifting, the final 20 minutes became a tense affair as Bridport dug deep to hold onto their lead.

Full-Time: A Crucial Victory

The final whistle brought relief and celebration for Bridport FC Ladies, who delivered a gritty team performance in challenging pitch conditions. Holly Perryment was named Player of the Match for her tireless effort in midfield, while debutant goalkeeper Zoe Disley-German impressed with her composure and key contributions.

This hard-fought win places Bridport three points clear at the top of the table, with six crucial games left in their title campaign.

Final Score:

Bridport FC Ladies 4–3 Cheddar Ladies

Scorers:

  • Aleeshea Rowland (6', 18')

Bridport now turn their focus to the next fixture, eager to maintain their momentum and continue their push for league glory.
