Match Report: Bridport FC Women vs Frome Town Women FC - By Keela Elliott
Bridport FC Women welcomed Frome Town Women FC to St Mary’s Field on Sunday in
what was expected to be a stern early-season test.
Frome, who finished 4th in Division 1 last season, arrived in strong form, having won both of
their last games.
Bridport manager, Lianne Dunk aimed to build on the positive performance displayed in the
second half of last week's game.
Bridport needed to start with intent, stay composed on the ball, and stay solid at the back.
The team responded well to this, with a disciplined and controlled performance. The breakthrough came in the 18th minute with a goal of real quality that earned Bridport the lead. A well-directed throw-in from Florence Valinski found Holly Perryment, who turned before firing a long-range strike past the Frome goalkeeper.
Bridport continued to press and create chances throughout the half, while also staying alert
defensively to the threat posed by Frome’s dangerous striker, Keira-Leigh Underhill. The
backline and keeper stood firm to maintain the advantage heading towards half time.
With four changes made by Bridport at half time they had to get back into a rhythm. Frome
took advantage of this as the 50th minute saw Underhill break the defensive line to score the
equaliser. With five goals in four games, she moves into the league’s top five scorers.
However, Bridport were quick to respond as just five minutes later, a well-worked attacking
move resulted in a shot on goal. Florence Valinski was quickest to react, slotting in the
rebound to restore the lead.
Chances were made at both ends of the pitch as the game began reaching its close, with
Bridport showing great resilience to manage the game under pressure.
Frome did find the net again late on, but much to the relief of the home side, the goal was
ruled out for offside.
The full-time whistle confirmed a hard-fought 2–1 victory for Bridport FC Women, a strong
statement against a quality opponent.
Florence Valinski was awarded Player of the Match for her tireless work rate, key assist, and
match-winning goal.
