Men's 1st Team vs Ilminster

A MIX of sloppy defending and a raft of injuries played its part in what Bridport boss Chris Herbst described as a ‘poor game’ after his side drew 3-3 with Ilminster on Good Friday.

Any small chance of chasing down Bovey Tracey for the title will have surely evaporated after the Bees were held in Devon as they now sit three points off the pace having played three more games.

Herbst said his side were ‘on top’ in the opening 20 minutes but were undone with a simple ball over the top as the host took the lead.

Will Gape’s sensational half-volley restored parity but defensive errors saw Ilminster retake the lead.

Sam Fisher pulled the Bees back level upon his return from time away with the Navy but again Ilminster took advantage of a careless defensive mix up between Jordon Scadding Ryan Gall.

Sol Ayunga was able to rescue a point for Herbst's side with 10 minutes to go but the Bees boss admitted a point was a fair result.

Speaking after the game he said: “The first 20 minutes we were on top creating chances with Sam Fisher and Riley Weedon having shots saved by their keeper.

But they put a ball over the top and slotted past a helpless Jordan.

 “We fired back straight away with Will Gape hitting it on the volley and straight into the far top corner – it’s a goal of the season contender

“They then scored again after some sloppy defending which let them have another easy goal. We then scored through Sam Fisher after some good work from Voss but the second half died off a bit and there weren’t as many chances.

"Ilminster hit a ball over the top and Jordon and Gally clattered into each other to make it 3-2 and at the other end their keeper miss kicked a clearance out and it landed to Solly to slot home nicely.

"A draw was a fair result really it was a poor game. We’re struggling with a lot of knocks/injures at the moment and that showed with the lack or quality on show."
