Match Report
Bridport increased their chances of finishing second in the table, while keeping the pressure on League leaders Bovey Tracey, with a hard fought 2-0 win over a combative Cullompton Rangers, writes Jon Smith.
Kieren Daniels converted a corner kick in the third minute to put the hosts in front, although Harley Brook had already received treatment after a clash with Rangers keeper Jack McAndrews. In a disjointed half, The Bees Sol Ayunga was involved in a prolonged chat with the referee, former local player turned ref Martin Underhay, although no punishment came from the official. Cullompton had two good chances with shots going into the side netting and a follow up shot across goal in the next fifteen minutes, but Bridport doubled their lead in the 31st minute. From nothing, in a game played at a frantic pace, home favourite Fred Parsons found Will Gape totally unmarked in the Rangers box and he calmly converted his chance from ten yards out.
The game was played at a frantic pace and the visitors streamed forward in the second half putting Bridport under real pressure for most of the half. Apologies that I couldn't get the Rangers players names to complete the description, but at times in the second half Bridport's penalty box suffered some Alamo like moments with eventual Man Of The Match Bees goalie Jordon Scadding, crowning his performance with a point blank save in the 72nd minute. It wasn't until the final ten minutes that the visitors began to run out of steam with Bridport's Riley Weedon seeing a shot that was heading for the top right hand corner of the goal well saved two minutes from time.
