Match Report

Bovey Tracey meted out their revenge on Bridport for their 7-6 win earlier in the season with a stunning second half performance writes Jon Smith.

This was a red blooded tussle from the start with 'keeperJordon Scadding setting the home fans nerves jangling when, having fumbled a shot for a corner, the resulting move saw the ball rebound off of his left hand goalpost. At the other end Fred Parsons narrowly missed with a thunderous shot from 25 yards after 11 minutes. Four minutes later Scadding saved the hosts again when he produced a double save having batted the first attempt away.

In a close game Will Gape snapped up a rebound to open the scoring from ten yards in the 24th minute. Sol Ayunga doubled the score two minutes later when, having cut in from the left, he drew the Bovey keeper out as he ran parallel to the goal line, before back-heeling the ball into an empty net from twelve yards.

The visitors responded with three goal attempts in the next fifteen minutes, with two being saved by Scadding and the last threat being a hopeful shot from 18yards which flew over the bar. Then, with the Bees looking to be in a comfortable position, Ollie Aplin finished off a breakaway attack in the third minute of first half added time with a finish from 18 yards for 2-1.

Harley Brook had a bright start to the second half for the hosts with a shot over the bar from 25 yards in the first minute followed by an attempt that went narrowly wide, while Harvey Coggins sent a header just wide for Bovey four minutes later. Brook and Fred Parsons shot wide and had a shot saved respectively in response, but Bovey Tracey replied in a formidable manner from the 56th minute onwards. A far post header from a corner saw Aplin and his team double their goal tally for 2-2 .

Four minutes later Josh Webber put Bovey ahead for the first time in the game, converting a shot from the edge of the box at the end of a corner. Jack Brimming increased the lead two minutes later on a break that seemed to be from an offside position and to all intents and purposes that was game over in the 64th minute.

The following twenty minutes or so was a combination of frantic, desperate football which occasionally included what is occasion known as the "dark arts" of the game!

Any lingering hopes that the Bees had of rescuing a point disappeared in the first minute of added time when, on another break, Webber beat a despairing Scadding to a through ball for the seventh goal of the game, which had attracted an attendance of 401 !
