Match Report: Bridport First Team Away Day vs Cullompton Rangers
by Simon Robinson
Bridport’s first team made the trip to fourth-placed Cullompton Rangers riding high off a midweek win at Honiton, looking to solidify their second-place standing in the league. With many players and committee members freshly clean-shaven to mark the start of their Movember campaign in support of awareness for mens health, the squad arrived with purpose and a cause.
Cullompton started brightly, nearly capitalising on a break in the 12th minute, but Bridport’s defence held firm. Solomon Ayunga began to make his mark with powerful runs that kept Rangers back peddling, and Kieran Daniels came close from a corner just two minutes later.
The breakthrough came in the 19th minute when Luke King bundled a cross over the line, giving Bridport a deserved lead. Cullompton responded with a strong spell of pressure, forcing goalkeeper Archie Kershaw into a vital save with his feet to preserve the advantage.
Half-time: Cullompton Rangers 0 – 1 Bridport
The second half saw the intensity rise, with Ayunga on the receiving end of some heavy challenges. The game became a back-and-forth battle, with both defences working overtime to keep the scoreline tight.
Sam Fisher nearly doubled the lead on 62 minutes, sending a shot just over the bar. A wave of substitutions around the 66-minute mark injected fresh energy into Bridport’s play, but it was Cullompton who struck nex, Lloyd White finishing off a swift counterattack in the 70th minute to level the score.
Bridport didn’t flinch. Just four minutes later, Ayunga latched onto a beautifully weighted pass from Fisher and coolly slotted home to restore the lead.
The final 23 minutes—16 regular plus 7 added—were a test of resilience. Bridport dug deep, defended with grit, and saw out the match to secure all three points.
Final Score: Cullompton Rangers 1 – 2 Bridport
