Match Report

Bridport responded to their disappointing 5-0 defeat in the FA Vase on Saturday  with a six goal demolition of Honiton Town, scoring three times in each half.

There was no sign of the goal fest to follow in the opening half hour of the game as both sides struggled to get anywhere near scoring a goal. Fred Parsons failed to convert a cross from Solomon Ayunga for the hosts in the early skirmishes and both sides won a corner in the opening ten minutes, with neither sides won seeming  capable of  mounting a coherent attack. Both sides inefficiency in the attacking side of the game were summed up when the Hippos Kyle Howell sent a shot 20 yards wide of the target in the 23rd minute. Bridport supporters were beginning to get edgy as what seemed to them to be all of the close decisions by the officials going against them. These thoughts were dispelled however in the 37th minute when Leon Wood scored with a shot from the edge of the penalty area for 1-0. Four minutes later it was 2-0 as an end to end passing move resulted in Harley Brook smashing the ball home from just inside the box. Suddenly, everything that the Bees tried came off with Parsons and Ayunga linking well. Brook pounced on a loose ball at the left hand goalpost in the last minute of the half to make it 3-0.

Honiton were on the attack from the start of the second half with Parramore and Howell  both testing Jordon Scadding in the home goal, but normal services was soon resumed as Alec Thomas had a shot from long range saved on the hour, before his teammates combined to hammer four shots at the Honiton goal only to see all of them blocked or cleared by the visitors defence. The Hippo's last hurrah  was an attack in the 69th minute when they forced a corner, but nothing came of it.

Bridport sealed the game in a six minute period beginning with Sam Fisher running on to a cross, to take the score to 4-0 in the 74th minute. A minute later a demoralised visiting team could only look on as Brook teed up Owen Kemp for 5-0. Ayunga finished the scoring with a jinking run ten minutes from time beating three players before netting his teams' sixth goal of the night.
