Match Report

Bridport took their unbeaten start to the season to four games, but were denied a win against Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police (SGTP) in the last minute of the game writes Jon Smith.

Sam Fisher was close to opening the scoring for The Bees in the second minute when he unleashed a volley from twenty yards which went narrowly wide of the post. Jake Chisholm for SGTP shot wide in the eleventh minute and as the game ebbed and flowed, Sol Ayunga was unable to connect with a cross from Alec Thomas  for the hosts two minutes later. Jesse Howe for the visitors was the next to put an attempt wide in the seventeenth minute and, after the mid half water break,  Ayunga sent his attempt wide. Bridport's Harley Brook took off on an end to end lung buster five minutes before the break, but his shot was well saved by SGTP goalie Jimmy Weeks. As chances went begging for both teams, Kieran Parkin's shot from the touchline went wide for the Devonian team before Bridport's  Brooks set off on another long run, only to see it well saved by the keeper in added time.

From nowhere, Bridport found themselves a goal up in the third minute of the second half when Ayunga ignored several attempted fouls before he scored from the edge of the box in the 48th minute. With their tails up, Bridport nearly doubled their lead when Darren Husher, making his first team debut, sent the ball over the bar from a corner. The teams continued to trade attempts on goal with no success, with Bridport peppering the SGTP goal with three consecutive shots on target that were blocked with twelve minutes remaining to keep the score at 1-0. With five minutes left the visitors forced two corners, the final one forcing Jordan Scadding in the home goal to make his first real save of the half.

In a dramatic ending, SGTP notched a equaliser when, after several rebounds from team mates shots, Parkin forced the ball home from close range! Injury time saw Matt Reed fire a shot over the bar before Reece Sommers sent an attempt wide of the goal for the away team. There was almost a dramatic end to the game when the  Assistant Referee on the changing room side of the ground need treatment for cramp as added time continued, but thankfully he was able to continue leaving both teams with a point.
