Match Report
Bridport eased their way to their first win of the season against a Bishops Lydeard side that, by the end of the game, had lost all three of their opening games, conceding six without scoring, writes Jon Smith
Any plans that the visitors had made for the contest were knocked for six when Louie Ward sustained an injury in the fifth minute, which saw him immediately substituted. By then though, the hosts had demonstrated that it might be a long afternoon for them as Leon Wood had forced the Bishop's keeper Seymour, to parry a shot in the first minute. Bridport's Harley Brook broke into a surging run in the tenth minute which the overworked Seymour did well to smother. A minute later, Darren Lock sent a shot in from 25 yards which the goalie tipped over the bar, and with their tails up Bridport's Riley Weedon and Sol Ayunga both subsequently sent attempts fizzing over the bar.
Darren Lock broke the deadlock in the 20th with an unstoppable header from a corner for 1-0 . In a rare attack, the visitors' Harry Scott forced Jordan Scadding into making a save after the restart, but subsequently Alec Thomas began a reign of terror down the left wing for the Bees. Sam Fisher had put The Bees two up with the final touch in the 24th minute after a quick game of football ping pong saw him knock the ball into his opponents goal. Four minutes later Thomas beat three defenders as he advanced on goal before beating the keeper to make it 3-0. Ayunga and Thomas were relentlessly probing the visitors goal and eight minutes before the break, the latter sent in a cross which two advancing teammates couldn't reach. Buoyed by his goal Darren Lock sent a shot over the bar six minutes before the break, before Scott replied with a rare attack by Bishops Lydeard in the 40th minute.
The second half was almost total one way traffic for the hosts with Fred Parsons, Thomas, and Fisher all forcing saves in the opening seven minutes. It was a sign of how the game was going however, when a shot from the visitors trundled across the home area and eventually went behind for a goal kick, fifteen yards wide of goal with no one chasing it. Weedon and Ayunga both forced saves in the ensuing fifteen minutes but Leon Wood notched the fourth goal for his team in the 72nd minute, smashing the ball home from a corner.
Scadding in the home goal didn't have one shot to save in the second half, with the visitors who were the last away team to win at St Mary's in the League in February, unable to match their performance from that day.
