Match Report
Bridport avoided the repeat of a nightmare start to the 24/25 season with a 1-1 draw in front of a bumper attendance of 250 against Crediton United writes Jon Smith.
The Bees had done the League double over the visitors with a 10 - 4 aggregate last season, but this contest was a close run affair from the start. United's main attacking threat, Iseoluwa Aworinde, forced two corners in the opening six minutes with some dangerous runs, and in response, the Bees Owen Kemp shot wide after James Cox had fed a cross to him. Crediton edged ahead in the 14th minute when Will Collins ended a run down the wing with a cross come shot that evaded Bridport keeper Jordan Scadding, with the hosts appealing for offside. Bridport's Riley Weedon saw his cross fly across the six yard box escape untouched in the 22nd minute and four minutes later was ruing his luck again when an attempt on goal from 20 yards bounced off of the top of the visitors crossbar! Bridport were going up through the gears as Harley Brook, Weedon and Cox all threatened to score. The pressure finally paid off when another cross from the wing by Brook found Samuel Fisher to score his debut goal, five minutes from the break.
The second half began with Bridport dominating proceedings, with attempts by Brook and new signing Owen Kemp threatening to put them ahead within the first twenty minutes of the restart. Substitute Oscar Poole forced United's keeper Lewis Layton into making a smart save in the 77th minute, a minute after joining the fray as a substitute, which was a prelude to both sides pressing for a winner.
In rapid succession, after the visitors Lucas White sent a shot wide in the 83rd minute, Bridport's Brook and Sam Fisher were both thwarted by the visiting defence. With three minutes of added time played, The Bees couldn't capitalise when Layton spilled a free kick for a corner, leaving honours even at full time.
